Features:

* Built-in Ethernet port - Support MODBUS/TCP
* Programmable via the Internet
* 8 inputs (24V NPN), 8 outputs (6x1A, 2x8A @24VDC)
* 8 analog inputs (12-bit, 0-5V)
* 2 analog outputs (12-bit, 0-5V or 0-10V selectable)
* 1 RS232 port, 1 RS485 Port - support Modbus RTU and ASCII

Both the FMD88-10 and FMD1616-10 PLC are expandable to 128 Digital Inputs and 128 Digital Outputs using expansion board EXP1616R or EXP4040. You can also connect many of the same peripherals for the T100MD+/MX+ series to these two PLCs.

Create Your Own Control Web Page

First introduced in the Nano-10 PLC, the new FMD88-10 implements the same AJAX technologies that allows anyone to create a custom web page to control their equipment using any browser (including the iPhone), without needing to write a single line of Java or Javascript program code. (Learn more in the Quick Start Guide)

          Ethernet Super PLC Application Ideas

1. Internet Accessible Home Control System

You can implement a small control system to directly control some equipment in your home and add an web page interface to it in no time.

By combining with low cost Wi-Fi bridge (e.g. D-Link DAP1522), multiple Super PLCs can easily be connected to a HOME Wi-Fi Network. This allows you to easily retrofit the Super PLCs into an existing home or commercial building to implement your customized home automation. Since the Super PLCs can perform M2M communcation readily your intelligent home is therefore served by multiple brains coordinating among themselves.

2. Super PLC As Modbus TCP/IP Gateways for Sensors

The Super PLC built-in Modbus TCP/IP Server allows simultaneous connections by up to 5 Modbus TCP/IP clients.  With only a few lines of program code you can immediately collect data from your current sensors and makes them available to the factory-wide SCADA or Enterprise network Host Computer.

Best of all, you can also perform some pre-processing (e.g. compute the moving average, scaling or linearization) of the data or perform local control with its powerful yet simple to learn Ladder+BASIC programming language.

Since multiple communication protocols can coexist on the Ethernet network, these super PLCs provides an instant, low cost solution for sensor manufacturers or any users to connect the sensor to the modern control system.

  3. Quickly Create A Customized Basic Control Web Page

Since the Super PLC built-in web services employs the AJAX technology for equipment control, it allows you to quickly create a custom web page within a few minutes to control your equipment. Your user can then use any PC or smart phone (e.g. iPhone) web browser to view the equipment, with graphical illustrations.

Best of all, your user does not need to install any application in order to view the operation of your equipment. So what they gain is a no-hassle, free Graphical HMI to interact with your equipment via the Internet.

Imagine how much this capability would add to the competitive advantage of your equipment!

4. Data Logging and Control of MODBUS Devices. Data Can Be Logged To Remote Server Via The Internet.

Since the Super PLC can issue Modbus-RTU or Modbus ASCII commands to access many industrial devices and sensors such as power meters connected to its RS485 port. This means it can readily acquire data from any instrument that understands Modbus protocol.  In addition, since the Super PLC can open a client connection to a remote server, it can log the acquired data to store as data files in the remote PC.

New Modbus/TCP Gateway Feature (Only on Super PLC models with r77 or higher Firmware)

With r77 firmware or higher, any Nano-10, FMD series, or F-series PLC can now be configured as a Modbus TCP gateway. This is of course particularly useful in PLC set-ups where most of the PLCs need Ethernet link-up into broader networks but as in most cases, are equipped only with traditional and standard serial communication ports (such as RS232 and RS485).

Once configured as a gateway, the PLC will be able to receive Modbus TCP commands from a client device or software (from the LAN or Internet) and transparently convert them to Modbus RTU (serial) and send them out of the COM port that was configured. The PLC will only convert and redirect Modbus TCP commands if the specified ID is different from the Gateway PLCs ID.

If the incoming Modbus TCP command is addressed to the Gateway PLC, then it will accept and process the command as per normal.

If the incoming Modbus TCP command has an ID that is different from the Gateway PLC, then it will do the following automatically and transparently:

1. Convert the command to Modbus RTU (serial)
2. Send it out of the COM port that was configured to the specified device ID.
3. Wait for a response and, once received, convert it from Modbus RTU back to Modbus TCP.
4. Send the response in Modbus TCP format back to the client that sent the command originally.
